Double resignation from football club board

Monday, September 15th, 2008

Two directors of Norwich City have suddenly stepped down from the football club’s board after little more than a year in their seats.

Andrew and Sharon Turner, who own Norwich-based finance firm Central Trust plc, arrived in May 2007 and gave the club a £2m interest-free loan.

A club statement this week said majority shareholders Delia Smith and Michael Wynn Jones have agreed to commit £2m this season to help the club deal with “financial challenges”.

Club chief executive Neil Doncaster said the two Turners had played a “vitally important” part in Norwich City’s running during their tenure.

He added both had worked long hours to help the club cut costs and maximise income.

Chairman Roger Munby has also gone on record to thank the Turners and say the loan remains in the club.

Officials have also said the future is “far from bleak” thanks to the new cash input from Ms Smith and Mr Wynn Jones.

Glenn Roeder is currently in charge of the Carrow Road club, which promotes a family-friendly image and has the nickname the Canaries thanks to a yellow and green home kit.

Norwich are currently in the bottom half of the Championship league table and failed to record a win in the first four games of the season.
